The Island of Flowers, 45 minutes from the capital
Taboga is the classic Panama City escape: the Island of Flowers, about 20 kilometres from the capital. Most people arrive by ferry, on a fixed schedule, queuing at the pier and heading back at a time they did not choose. This charter exists to do that same trip in reverse.
You leave when you want, fish on the way out, anchor where the water is clear, swim, spend time on the beach and head back when your group decides. The island stops being a destination with a timetable and becomes a stop inside your own day.
The stretch between the bay and Taboga is working water. You troll on the way and fish the shallows and structure around the island and the Otoque islands. What shows up most often is Spanish mackerel, jack, snapper and bonito, with season and tide setting the pace.
You do not need to know how to fish. The gear is on board and the crew shows you how to cast and how to work the rod when something hits. If your group has people who want to fish and people who only want beach, this is the route that fits everyone best.
Taboga has a sand beach, water noticeably clearer than the bay, a small walkable town and seafront restaurants. It also has one of the oldest churches in the hemisphere and trails up to the lookout if the group has the energy.
The honest version: most groups end up spending more time on the water than on land. Anchoring with the ladder down, swimming and eating on board usually beats walking the town.

From December to April the sea is flatter and the water around the island looks clearer, which is when Taboga looks like the photos. In the rainy season it is still a very good trip, just with a higher chance of an afternoon shower. Safety rules: if the forecast does not hold, the captain proposes another route or moves the date.
